ORIGINAL: nj85z28 anyone else heard about the supposed Corvette SS in the works (possibly) Unless I missed something, they never had an SS Corvette in the past (some show and racing models, but not production) - SS designations went on hi-po models of their "standard" cars. I doubt they would do a SS Corvette - probably want to hold with that traditional. There is the rumored "Blue Devil" project -- supposedly a twin-turbo ZO6 with 650 HP, but I think it is nothing but a pipe dream or something they are doing just to titilate the car mags, etc.. Chevy doesn't need to and would be unlikely to bring anything to market that is that "far ahead." The ZO6 is faster than Vipers and everything else for now, that's enough for now. I'd be fairly certain they have a plan to pull another 50 HP out of it when they need it (cam, exhaust, something) , but that's probably all that's near production anuthoritzation.

I remember a few years ago GM was thinking about breaking "Corvette" into its own "brand," and making the Camaro part of that "brand." Obviously, that fell by the wayside. I think what GM needs to do to be successful with the next Camaro, besides excellent styling, is build a well-rounded package, INCLUDING a decent interior. I would also like to see the weight kept to around 3300-3400 lbs, and an IRS. If GM gives the Camaro an IRS, Ford can kiss a lot of prospective Mustang buyers "goodbye."

I will be giving more information when I can, but I get to go to the Press Debut of the new Camaro next week! I am so psyched I am sick. From what I am being told by GM insiders - true Camaro fans will NOT be disappointed...and this guy has Camaro oil in his blood! I have also found out that testing has been going on for months on the new car and that they have already done hot weather testing in Las Vegas area...GM has done a great job at keeping this thing under wraps aside from the leaked concept photos that were on LS1.com. Stay tuned for the update on the 10th. I will be taking my checkbook to the car show to hand to them if it is close to the first gen design that I have seen!

as for the ZO6 i heard reports of chevy testing a ZO6 at the Nurburgring track with the "unmistakable" sound of a supercharger coming from under the hood. and for the camaro - making a front drive camaro or a camaro that cant match up to the new charger an mustang would be one of the worst moves GM could make. they already have a blah line of cars and a crappy new camaro would just be another nail in the coffin.

Just got back from Detroit - the car is a killer - distinctive and RWD! (THE NEXT IMPALLA WILL ALSO BE RWD SO RELAX!!) The car is flat awesome - get out there and support it - beg borrow and steal from whoever you know at GM to push for this car. Unlike the Challenger and the Rustang - the New Camaro is distinctive - it looks like a '69 - but is not so retro as to just be a copy with soft edges like the Stang or the Challenger. I touched and smelled this new car - and I can tell you that it is awesome. I spoke with engineers on the team and found out some killer details about the V6's and the LS3...yep LS3. Believe me you will all be HARD when the detail on this thing start to come out.

I saw the 2007 Camaro concept in Detroit yesterday. It looks very much like a production vehicle to me. I am sure this one is going to be made. The style is a liitle more retro than I would like, but it definitely looks better in person than the pictures. The chassis is rear wheel drive with independent suspension all around. I was nursing my 96 Z28 and wondering what to do. Now I know! Saying that this is not a true Camaro is ridiculous.
